Default fan switch/ thermostat?

This is probably a stupid question:

In order to have a J's or mugen fan switch is it a must that you have an aftermarket thermostat? If i have a mugen fan switch, can i just use my stock thermostat?

Please advise!

thanks in advance!

All the fan switch does is regulates at what temperature the fans kick on to cool the coolant in the radiator. So, no, you don't need an aftermarket thermostat to have an aftermarket fan switch. I have a mugen thermostat with the stock fan switch. They are not dependant on each other. Hope this helps.
