Default Few Problems

Hello,
I am a new s2k owner and I have noticed a few issues and was looking for some input.

First the car sometimes seems to be a little jerky when breaking. It also takes quite a bit of for on the break to get the car to slow down. It doesn't make any noises or anything like that when breaking. I don't know if this is normal or if there is some problems with the pads and or rotors. (Edit) there are some grooves in the rotors. I assume that means they need replacing. I am unsure about the pads. I have no idea how to check them and wont even have access to any kind of a garage until next week.

Second the car makes a high pitched squeaking sound when accelerating. (edit) The sound seems to happen after the clutch is engaged and lasts maybe a second. It is a squealing sound similar to a whistle.

Third, when accelerating in 1st at WOT sometimes the tachometer will get up to around 6k then the car will start making a weird noise and stop increasing in rpms until I up shift. This normally doesn't happen though and I thought I was just driving it wrong but it happened again today at WOT and I have no idea why. It normally doesn't do that though.

I don't have a lot of mechanic knowledge but I am sure I could replace parts if I knew exactly what to replace. Otherwise I was just planning on bring it to a Honda dealer and paying them to diagnose what is wrong if there is anything that is actually wrong. The problems aren't very noticeable and didn't realize them until I had driven the car about 500 miles.

thanks

The S2k does not have a timing belt. With the 1st issue I would change the pads and rotors and then bleed the brakes.

The second and third issue may be related, but based on the information you provided it is very difficult to diagnose over the internet. Whatever the issue is it sounds as if you may be hitting the fuel cut a 6k because the car is detecting an issue and won't allow it to go any further for fear that it will damage the engine. I would get it checked out ASAP!!

Does the squeaking noise sound like a cricket? If so its your PVC valve... needs to be cleaned. Change your pads and get the rotors turned if they are still worth keeping. Are you going WOT before the car is warmed up? (3 bars on the temp gauge)? THe car will not engage vtec unless it is fully warmed up... its to keep from damaging the engine

Second the car makes a high pitched squeaking sound when accelerating. I originally thought it was something with the drive-train but after searching it seems like it may be the timing belt? It is high pitched and I can't tell where it is coming from.

First off... WELCOME BROTHER!!

I am a new s2k owner and I have noticed a few issues and was looking for some input.

Braking issue:
***********
Sounds like the pads are crystallized, specially if they dont squeak. Change the pads ASAP and turn your rotors (Like someone mentioned above).

High-pitched sound when accelerating:
*******************************
What RPM range does this happen in? We could use a short video w/ the sound.

Cut-off at 6K RPM:
***************
Make sure the coolant is warmed up before you attempt to rev past 6K. You need to have at least 3 bars on the water temp gauge (If you have an AP1), not sure how many bars on the AP2 cluster. The ECU will cut the fuel before you hit VTEC at around 6K when the engine is cold to avoid possible damage. s2Klariat said this above as well.

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLIES.

Problem 3 must be because the engine is cold. After the above post it seems that the car is just preventing me from going into vtech because the engine isn't warm enough.

I do plan on taking the car in this week to get the brakes checked out. If I just need pads ill get them and if I need rotors ill either get them refinished (or whatever it is called) or buy newer better rotors depending on the price.

the squeaking noise is very high pitched and if I make a video I don't think the audio will record it. At least not on my camera. The best description I can give is that it is a very high pitched squealing sound that happens after the clutch is engaged. lasts maybe half a second. It seems to happen after shifting and really is only noticeable with he top down. it kind of sounds like a whistle blowing.

thanks

I also have that high pitched noise(like whistle) but not all the time.
It didn't bother me, so I didn't really try look or search.

Ok. I made a video but the sound really didn't come up on it. You can hear it but just faintly.

If there is a substantial lip on the edge of the rotors (where the pad contact surface ends) you likely need new rotors. Always get new pads when you get new rotors. You probably should change out your brake fluid while you're at it.

What he meant to say is that it is spelled VTEC, not VTECH.
