Default Fifth and 6th gear problems.

Okay gonna try to keep this short and sweet. Long story short I broke second gear, got a decent deal on a transmission from another member on s2ki. Pulled mine put his in.

Problem is I can get into Reverse 1-4, there just isn't a 5th and 6th gear. Is there any small things I can check before I pull it and make it target practice. Because who really wants to pay for a transmission thats more of a POS than the one you already had? I just don't want to go around pointing fingers when there could be something I can do to fix it and look like a jackass.

Id be pissed. That's likely why it was sold. Sometimes you can force it in, then row it back and forth and it will smooth out. Search for my post in "lost 5th gear after track day".

Allegedly his clutch was slipping super bad, they pulled it and he wanted to go for more power than it'd handle.

The one thing that makes it feel weird to me is, the sifter feels like it's too far right now. So I feel like it's not on the correct way but it won't really go in the other way. Feels like 1st and 2nd are where 3rd and 4th are normally. What I mean is it looks like that. So I'm not to sure.

He didn't have it for sale on here, I sold him a WG locally. When I broke second I asked him.

Well don't mention his name just yet...but in my book when you pull a trans with 5th-6th gear issues, you know it.

The shifter feels normal in neutral, no excessive play?

Yes sir, and it'll go into reverse normal. Not sure if it normally looks like it rises up after you put it in, but it does. It won't let me put it in R without pushing down though. Also can't put it in 5-6 with car off.

sounds to me like there may be an issue with your shifter mechanism itself. I have heard in the past where it will go into all gears and reverse and 5/6 it won't. Hopefully that's the case. I'd disassemble the shifter and triple check all parts and pieces as well as direction, especially since you stated 1-2 feels like where 3-4 are normally. Also I'd check your motor mounts to make sure the whole engine/trans isn't cocked in there which may also give you a weird shifter location. Hopefully you get it sorted out and there aren't any real issues with the transmission itself.

I would check and see if you installed the shifter backwards.

Take a look at the 9th picture in this write up https://www.s2ki.com/home/2010/03/11...rease-shifter/ the metal knob in between the two plastic pieces goes toward the driver. The shifter is slightly "tilted" toward the driver, if it is backward maybe it is hitting the opening and not letting it go into 5th or 6th and also feel like it is not sitting right.

There might also be one of the plastic pieces has broken.

Worth a shot.
