Default fillin it up problem

i've had this problem since i bought the car (used) but finally annoyed enough to try and figure out what the problem is. When filling up i have to fill it really slowly or the pump will shut off and its impossible to just set the pump to on and let it hang, you have to hold it and manually fill..very slow. And, since i live in oregon they won't let us pump our own gas so every time i go to fill it up i have to do the same old song and dance to get them to let me pump it. Has anyone heard of this? its an 04, my 00 never had this problem

It's better to pump gas slowly anyway, if you dump it in the tank full blast it aerates, so you're pumping air and gas into the tank. If you do it slowly you'll end up putting more gas in the tank and less air and vapors.

I had this problem with my previous vehicle (and actually slightly on this S2k of mine too). On my previous vehicle, I located the EVAP (iirc) send/return lines; which were in the engine compartment in the particular vehicle. I then went to a gas station, opened up the EVAP send/return lines/ends that ran into the gas tank, and shot compressed air (from gas station) into it (unclogging and freeing any possible "pools/puddles" or other things in the EVAP lines that can cause an air clog). I also opened up the gas cap while I was blowing compressed air into the lines, so I can actually hear the bubbles escaping in the tank (and confirms it's the correct lines). It worked well and always filled up perfectly fine ever since then.

But, this was on my previous vehicle. I have not done this yet to the S2k, as I haven't researched this yet (because it isn't as bad as compared to my previous vehicle) nor do I know where the EVAP lines from/to the gas tank are located. Anyone know (where the EVAP lines/ends are?)? I assume it would be in the engine compartment as well? I could be wrong and I've never checked.

Did I read this correctly, Oregon will not let you pump your own gas?
