Default Final Gear

I'm looking for a lil higher gear on my s2k... was thinking about 4.78 but in my research I found that the car will top off at 145mph.. I do not want that.. as sometimes I go higher than.. i would like to top off around 160 maybe?

car is stock other than intake exhaust and few tricks on my own... nothing internal, boost or nos..

My research suggests that 4.44 to 4.62 gears are well liked for Road Racing (no traffic highways)

any suggestion?

The stock car already does 150-ish and that's with the 4.10. You're not going to get a higher top speed with a larger final gear.

Taller = bigger top end, but slower 0-60
Shorter = lower top end, faster 0-60

I'm not sure what you're asking for here exactly. As it stands your car is going to max out around 155-160mph by drag alone. Maybe you can tell us what you're trying to do. Stock gearing is plenty good for track events and if you're street racing at these speeds let's get you some jail time, seriously. It's just wreckless. PM me your plate and state - would love to get you off the road.

FYI gearing is going to run you $1100. So spend wisely.

Wrong... I do 130-135MPH in 5th and I was able to hit 155+ in 6th with a lot of RPM left...

Jump on youtube and educate yourself. While there is rpm left there isn't power to push the car much faster. 269km/h is the fast you'll get the car on stock gearing. Working backwards 168mph, that was in turkey on the back side of a downward slopping bridge. What you need to go faster is more power.

but I'm sure you already know that. you seem to know everything

What size tires do you have? If you have stock gearing you should be able to go around the low 150's with a '04+ or around the upper 150's with a '00/ '03.

Wrong? How? The AP1's top speed is limited by drag. Even if you had 4.44 gearing, you're slightly short of a theoretical 160 MPH and that's if you could even hit a full 9000 rpm.. At near top speed, I wouldn't trust what you see on the speedo.

Unless you're on the salt flat, you're going to run out of room long before you get a chance to hit top speed.

No No either I didn't explain myself correctly or I didn't understood your post...

now I see I didn't understood your post on the first read... I tho you said that the S2K top off at 150mph at full RPM... I was working and read from my phone

but yes Obviouslky I need more power to go faster.. by the time I got to 150mph miles took some 3-5 sec to get 1 more mile on dash...

what im asking here its a way to get up there faster... Im planning on FI but not for now since its almost 8k in parts

With a 4.78, you would not be able to hit the top speed of an AP1, which is about 153, give or take a couple (actual) due to drag, or 165mph (theoretical, redline limited).

With a 4.78, your redline-limited top speed would just over 140.

If you want maximum speed, you need more power and either stock or taller gearing. I know mine will hit the full 165, and probably 175+ if I had a taller final drive, but I have no desire to do that because I don't have a death wish. The S2000 is simply not stable enough to go that fast. It's an awesome car, sure, but I know its limits.

Still, I'm not understanding why you want to go that fast on public roads...the car is not safe at that speed. Traffic or no, it's jailtime if you're caught. It's basically the pursuit of a Darwin Award as far as I'm concerned.

If you go 4.77's, get them for the 1-3 acceleration. There's no reason anyone should need to go 100mph+ on public roads. .02
