Default FIPK: What is difference between 63 and 57 series?

I am having part # 57-3514 shipped to me now. I looked up the product application guide on K&N's website and they recommended #63-3514.

Please tell me that 57-3514 will fit my 2005 model fine? From the product application guide it shows that 57-3514 fits the 2004 model and to my knowledge there is no difference, right?

You're fine, the 57-3514 is the correct part. I've had one on my S for about 6 months now. If I remember, the 63-3514 is for off-road, track use only or not C.A.R.B. approved??? Take that with a grain of salt because it coming from memory and I can't look it up right now.

Enjoy the intake.

Thanks for the info, Fencer!

Did you notice any SOTP difference with the intake? How is the sound?

I don't know what SOTP is... but I replaced the stock intake during the middle of the SoCal summer and the heat soak disappeared. As far as the sound goes...the first time I hit vtec, I'm man enough to admit that I giggled

Seat Of The Pants (how did the butt dyno register any increased power)?

yeah, I figured this would be a fun mod for sound alone. Glad I got the right part ordered. Did you install it yourself? How was the install?

Weird. Do a search for intakes for an '00 to '04 model and they say the #57 version. A search for an '05 model results in #63.

Exact same specs, filters, pictures...

As Fencer said, the only difference I can see is the CARB thing.

Installation is super easy.

Thanks, Mark. Weird they change the whole 'series' just to indicate a CARB exemption.

The install was fairly easy; it took me about two hours. I was going slow and triple checking everything. Just don't confuse the vacuum lines and you'll be fine. As far as butt dyno...I didn't notice anything. You have to remember the gain won't be any more than 5-10HP. On a 200hp car that's 5% difference or less. I would challenge anyone who said they "felt" a difference.

I did shorten some of the vacuum lines to route them better than the directions show. Some have a tendancy to flop around. I can take a picture if you like.

63-3514 is not Carb but it is being tested on a MY05
57-3514 is Carb approved for MY00 to 04

same part just a different # kuz MY05 is not carb approved yet

I've had it on MY05 for almost 6 months ... works great

Fencer,

No picture is necessary, though I really appreciate you offering to do that. I just installed a K&N FIPK on my fiance's IS300 and have installed intakes in several cars in the past, so I'm not expecting a problem.

I figured I wouldn't feel much in the way of a power gain, I just like that intake noise under heavy throttle and high rpm. A few horsies is just icing on the cake.

I've never really looked much at the K&N FIPK systems as I've always use AEM, Injen, and Iceman in the past, but these K&N systems really are quite nice and well-engineered. I guess that's a benefit of getting an intake from an established, well-run, large company like K&N.
