Default First gear

Well 2 times yesterday i pulled up to the redlight and stopped, when the light turned i tried to put it in first and idk how to explain it, like it only went like halfway in. So the gear wasnt engaged and i didnt move, so i tried to push it slightly so it would maybe go in but not hard enough to damage it but it wouldnt go in. I had to pull it out of gear and put it back before i could leave the redlight. Anyway what the heck could cause this? I had a 95 civic that had exactly this same thing but it would grind when it happened, the s2k didnt grind.

When decelerating do you row back down through the gears? For example do you go 6-5-4-3-2 then put it in first to go? Or are you just pulling it out of whatever gear your in and putting it into first? We have a syncro type transmission and it can be sort of "fussy" if not properly driven (ie. not skipping gears when up shifting and down shifting) Also when was your last gear lube change?

when i first bought my car i had that problem because i was used to driving my prelude. Once i stopped skipping gears on the downshift and keeping first in at stops, the problem stopped

uh im not sure, i dnt skipi upshifting like 1 2 3 6 or like that but when im downshifting i rev match usually 2 gears down like from 6th to 4th and then neutral while i am stopped and then first again. Should i just go to first while stopping and hold the clutch or what?

That might be your issue try not skipping gears while downshifting. Also maybe change your gear lube I'm sure that would help

try keeping it in first when your stopped at a light. Once i start keeping it in first and not out of gear, the problem went away

Missing the obvious: Check clutch fluid, is it dark/low? Change it, flush it, whatever...but if it is, you're basically looking at changing the master/slave cylinders.
