Default First service?

Taking in my baby for its "first" service. It's a 05 with 44k miles and there are no records of it being serviced....ever.

Thus my question is..... what do i check?

Read all the "before you buy" threads and a few others but there is no "check list" for this situation.

What do I need to check? I can't drive it in peace without knowing EVERYTHING is good.

I'd do the fluids and filters, except for the coolant.
Air filter
Cabin air filter
Motor oil/filter
Brake fluid
Clutch fluid
Transmission fluid
Differential fluid

There are DIYs for all of them.

A valve adjustment would also be a good idea, check the brakes.
the change of filtes and fluids is a natural as said before.

You can DIY the air filter and cabin filter pretty much without tools, they're both extremely easy and you could do them anywhere - just order the parts online and follow the DIY's (That would save you some money not having to pay labor on those jobs). I'd also recommend checking your serpentine belt tension indicator and seeing if your belt has stretched and needs to be replaced - might need it, might not, but mine was quite stretched at 50,000. Here's a thread that gives some info on that indicator:

Everything else the others have said is spot on, should be good at 44k!

Check the regional forums. Maybe someone can help you out or recommend a good mechanic.

If you're going home for the summer, do it then.

I definitely agree with checking the brakes, boots, and bushings. You should also check the elastic straps on the top, and check the soft top frame for burrs.

I know there are threads that mention this but if the maintenance is unknown then replace all fluids and filters so you're at a known state.

Seems like you answered your own question then. If you need to, check your regional subforum for a good shop (as stated above) and have everything checked out.

Another good list is Billman's once over. It includes all the regular maintenance plus pretty much all common s2k issues.

Thanks!

Took in my baby today and they don't know shit....

They don't have any of the fluids or how to re grease the shifter...

Most of the things mentioned above...they didn't know how to do.
