Default flooded engine

hey guys. just had a question to ask about rebuilding a flooded engine. how hard is it to start up an engine again thats been flooded a bit i think during a fresh water flood. and is it something that can be done by yourself or is it best to take it to a shop...nothing bad happened, im just curious cuz i might be investing in a project s2k thats been in a flood.

It depends... If someone has tried to start it while the motor had water in it then you could have some serious damage.
Had water damage with my lude and we made the mistake of trying to start it and actually broke a rod.

Pull the plugs and then try and turn it over and see what comes out .

Really the things I would are...

1. Pull the head
2. drop the oil pan
3. Inspect for damage. Check the cylinder walls, pistons, and valves for damage. The rods in the s2k are pretty damn strong, but it wouldn't hurt to take a look at them.

If all that checks out, then the rest is fairly simple (though might be expensive). Altenator, starter, wiring, battery, coils, fuses, etc. Some, all, or none may need to be replaced. I'd also service the tranny and diff fluids, though they are sealed and shouldn't have water in them.

That's all I got.

If you're "rebuilding" an engine, why does it matter if it'll start or not and what difference does it make if it was flooded with fresh water or Jell-o or blessed by the Pope himself? You're going to tear it apart and change all the bad bits anyway.
