Flywheel Washer

Flywheel Washer
I had some trouble recently with a grinding clutch. After a lengthy ordeal I took it to the dealership and we found that the washer on the flywheel was incorrectly placed, according to the Honda service manual, between the flywheel and the crank. Also, all but two of the flywheel bolts were finger-tight, the other two were probably torqued to 20 lb-ft....thanks to the smart guy that replaced the clutch this spring.
According to the aforementioned smart guy, the washer can go on either side. He said he talked to the guys at Inline Pro and they verified that. Is this true? Because I saw the wear it caused on the end of the crank as well as on the flywheel.
