this is an odd question about foot pounds and inch pounds.

i got a torque wrench that is calibrated with inchpounds instead of foot pounds. i was wondering if i did the conversion right. i went through google and found out that 1 inch pound is equal to 0.083333333333 foot lbs.

i need to torque a bolt to 14 foot lbs and this is what i came up with:

inch/lbs = 1 inch/lb x 14 ft/lbs
0.083 ft/lbs

inch/lbs = 1 inch/lb x 14
0.083
inch/lbs = 1.162

somehow it didnt sit right with me... and i just wanted to check if anyone could tell me how to actually do all this correctly....

so if someone could double check what i did coz i think i did something wrong... please let me know

A foot-pound is actually a pound-force foot, or lbf-ft. We tend to say it in simple terms. One lbf-ft is the torque exerted around a point that is equal to one pound of force exerted on a lever one foot away.

one lbf-ft is equal to 12 lbf-in. (yes, lbf-in is the true name for inch-pounds).

Therefore, 14 foot-pounds (or actually 14 lbf-ft) is equal to 14 x 12 = 168 lbf-in.

I hope this clarifies things.

Yeah to do it with the figures you gave,
you take the 14 you need and divide it by the .0833333333 and that will give you roughly 168.

What exactly did you google? You know google has a great conversion calculator built in right? For kicks I googled "14 ft lbs in inch lbs", you should try it
