Front brake piston boots
I was swapping brake pads this afternoon and noticed that the rubber piston boots on both front calipers are ripped. They are included in the 'caliper rebuild kit' and I don't think I will have any problem fixing them when I get the chance. I'm not leaking any brake fluid, so the piston seals appear good. My question is: Is this something I should park the car for, or can it wait a week or two until I get the car up on stands for a tranny and oil change?
You can wait. The piston boots are dust seals to keep debris out of the piston bore. Your brakes will work fine without the boots for a long time. In fact some of the track cars run without them permanently since they have a tendency to melt under track conditions.
