Fuel Filter Replacement
Hi all,
I'm gearing up to replace the fuel filter (plastic assembly) and the pre-pump strainer/sock. These are service items for Australian S2K owners (our fuel is comparatively dirty compared to the rest of the world)
As I understand it, this can be a bit if an annoying job. My question is, is it wise to replace the fuel pump while I'm there? Do fuel pumps fail?
I plan on keeping the car stock so an upgraded pump is not required - I'd go with an OEM pump if replacement was recommended (154k kilometers/95k miles) on the car.
Many thanks!

To be perfectly honest I think it is a waste of money. I bought a used fuel tank from a friend how parted out his 2003 S2000 a couple years back, I bought it as a spare thinking my ap1 fuel tank might rust out some day. The tank came to me with about a 1/4 tank of fuel in it and I took the pump and filter assembly apart to help drain it. The tank was 15 years old at the time. I had a look at the inside of the tank, and the fuel that came out of it, and the fuel pump sock. I was amazed how clean it was. There was zero deposits in the tank, there was zero rust in the tank and the interior was super shiny, I couldn't believe how perfect it was. The fuel pump sock was perfectly clean, not a single deposit on it. Barring any abnormal fuel going into the tank I think the filter and sock are good for the life of the car. I think the gas stations in our part of the world must use very well filtered fuel at the pumps from what I can tell, it might not be like that in other parts of the world. I heard in Australia the fuel filter and sock have a replacement interval, we don't have one listed in the owner manual in North America.
I'm in the US and my previous car around 150k needed a new fuel pump so I did all of it at once on a 05. I did also have a car in the 300k club to my knowledge with records of being on the original fuel pump but 3rd sock and 2nd leveler.
The leveler went bad twice and the socks were changed at the same time. The third time it was due to replacing the soft top so it was easy to do.

I like replacing my external fuel filters on my B and H series engines, so easy to do and parts are plentiful, its a no brainer. I assume the S2000 parts won't be available in a few more years the way things are going.
You are probably right - But I do hope the new parts program helps us out.
For the record - It appears the S2K filter is similar to the TSX filter. I think the aftermarket also provides filters and strainers.

^ Yeah with my older 90's Hondas the aftermarket has really stepped up to make parts when Honda has discontinued basically all parts for them (unreal and very disappointing in my books) I hope Honda doesn't kill the parts for the S2000 like they have all other vehicles over 20 years age.

We should be good for a while.
We already have replacement options for some things & thankfully our cars do share SOME parts.
I do hope we see more people make nicer stuff for our cars. It's to the point where if something happens to my engine, it's cheaper to K24 swap it. If the trans goes well rebuilding it is getting more and more expensive. I hope more development & the Japanese part catalogue pick up more stuff that we can use on the LHD cars.
