Default Fuel gauge problem

Well...my fuel gauge won't drop below two lines any more! The result,my car starved of fuel luckily in my garage.I know that our gauge is a funny thing and for that reason I don't wait my fuel to drop below 2 lines but i hate when something doesn't work properly on my car!Is it just the floater and it's connections or can it be something more serious???
Any help would be appreciated!

I knew an S2000 owner whose fuel gauge wouldn't drop below 3/4's of a tank, and the problem was going on for a while. I suggested that she run a bottle of Redline fuel system cleaner through the tank, she did that and the problem cleared up immediately and did not return. I can't say that it solves all issues but it's worth a try, if there are any deposits on the sending unit it might clear up and allow the float to work properly. It's a cheaper alternative than pulling out the sending unit. Redline is one of the few fuel cleaners that is strong enough to work in one treatment, you can try others that you may have available in your area if you can't find Redline.
