Default Fuel Injection Service

Has anyone had this done? I took my car in today for the fuel filler neck TSB and they happened to mention that I needed it. Hadn't read anything about this service on the boards so was wondering if it was another one of those bogus services the dealership tries to pawn off on you .

If it is legit, anyone know what's involved?

they run your car on a bottle of can cleaner crap for a few minutes and its supposed to clean the injectors and burn carbon. I had it done on my old accord once, and all it does is make your car smoke a lot from the exhaust for a minutes. i couldn't tell any difference.

I believe it is. Unless your engine is running poorly, fuel injector cleaning at the dealer is unnecessary. I put in a bottle of off the shelf injector cleaner at the same interval as my oil changes as routine maintenance. Far cheaper and easier to do and will keep the injectors in good shape. Modern day fuels don't varnish up like it used to. Even if you got a tank of bad gas, you can still get a bottle of concentrated injector cleaner off the shelf.
Generally, there are 3 stages of injector cleaning:
1. The cheap bottle added on an oil change interval basis.
2. The "heavy duty" concentrated stuff for when you might suspect the injectors are clogged. This can be purchased off the shelf.
3. The "industrial strength" injector service, like the one your dealer offered you. This is the most expensive and is left as a last resort when you have neglected the first 2 options and your engine is running like crap due to clogged injectors.

Thanks for confirming my thougts. I usually use off-the-shelf stuff about twice a year and haven't experienced any engine issues due to injectors so far.

*sigh* this is why I hate going to dealerships

they like to use term "upsale" when they recommend some bs service. thats how dealerships make most of their money.

If you use any sort of oil change interval as a determining factor for when you use fuel injector cleaner, make sure you do it right BEFORE you change your oil. There isn't any reason to contaminate perfectly clean / new oil with a bunch of fuel cleaner additive and carbon deposits.
