Default Fuel Pump or Fuel Filter?

Hello from Laos

My S2000 03 CT supercharged 15,000 Miles start to have problem when i first start the car i feel there is a drop in my fuel pressure (looking at my Defi fuel pressure gauge), sometime it would just shut off itself, also give lots of black smoke.

I manage to check the spark plugs and they are very black so i replace it all 4 and the problem start coming back the next day.

I check the fuel pump by reading from S2Ki "how to" it took me 2-3 hours to get to it and i found that my fuel filter is dirty with some kind of little bits of silver gray color in the filter. Could this be the problem?
So does this mean i have to change both the fuel pump and the filter? Could it be because of the fuel in Lao P D R ( Shell 95 octane) and i also used octane booster from X1-R
Can someone please tell me where i can order the fuel pump and filter online and part number will be very helpful.

thanks

Hi Lao,

The blackened spark plugs sounds like you're running rich. You'd be running lean if the fuel pressure isn't high enough.

If the filter bag is contaminated as you say you could try cleaning or replacing it. The pump may have been working harder due to the clogged filter but unless it is making noise I doubt it is stuffed. IS it the upgraded Walbro that comes with the Comptech SC?

I would probably invest in a wideband A/F meter before making any big decisions.

Hello AusS2000,

i hope you still remember me! Sorry i took so long to reply, been busy with my new born son. anyway my S2000 did not come with Walbro fuel pump just the regular stock fuel pump with the filter. My stock fuel pump start to make noise so i am considering purchasing the walbro fuel pump. however i have a question on the Walbro fuel pump, it doesn't come with a filter like the stock one? from the link below it doesn't having external filter. Is it going to be fine with Laos 95 octane fuel? or should i order the stock one better?

I also would like to order LSD. My S2000 comes with ACT CLUTCH KIT, HEAVY DUTY PRESSURE PLATE, Gear Ratio to 4.57, will this setting have any difficulty or effect for mechanic to the install the LSD (I wouldn't want them to messed up the gear ratio) will there be any effect on this? is it going to be hard to install the LSD? What LSD brand do recommend? most it importantly in must be easy to maintain and what fuel should be used for this LSD? Please help!

You recommend investing in is a wideband A/F meter. Where can i order one? what does it help?

Last thing i want to ask is Greddy Emanage Ultimate. I ask you before about AEM but come to think about it.. its too hard to tune in Laos. So is it easier to install Greddy Emanage Ultimate with all the hardness. Do you think i can install and tune myself? with the help from you of course!

Here is my modification incase you forgot!

thanks mate

Comptech supercharged NOVI1000 aftercooler, ACT CLUTCH KIT, HEAVY DUTY PRESSURE PLATE, Gear Ratio to 4.57. I Added new mod is HKS Dual Hi power exhaust/ TEIN dress up string, Defi gauges and the rest are Carbon fiber hood, hardtop, ADVAN Model 5 17" rims
