Default fujitsubo resonator removal

I love how the fujitsubo sounds...just want MORE of it (and save a few more lbs in the process), without becoming TOO loud. Has anyone done this? Any performance difference +/-? How did it change the sound...similar to the effect on the stock system?

Thanks!

I've removed my cat. and replaced it with a testpipe which made the exhaust note deeper and slightly louder without drone.

Not a big difference in performance...slightly better throttle response if anything.

My brother has a 350Z with a fujitsubo exhaust and when we installed it we felt the same exact way. The tone sounded great, but their just wasn't enough sound to it. I brought his car to a "performance exhaust shop" that could weld stainless steel and for $90 they cut out the fujitsubo resonator and replaced it with straight stainless steel pipe. To make a long story short, the exhaust now sounds amazing! The exhaust probably doubled in sound db's, but it is still not that loud because when we first installed the exhaust it was no louder than his stock exhaust. In my opinion it now sounds perfect with a mean tone that is not too overbearing. I don't know if this would also work out as well for your S but I would suggest for you to try it. Worst comes to worst you can always weld the resonator back on, but I think that it will probably sound perfect without the resonator because I have heard sound clips of the fujitsubo exhaust on the S and it reminds me of how my brother's 350 sounded before he took out the resonator, it has the perfect tone but sounds like it is being restricted alittle bit. Anyway, let me know how it turns out if you decide to take it off. -Michael.

I agree, the sound is perfect with a test pipe. It is like having a duel personality, quite at low rpm and sound bitchen when going into VTEC. I cannot imagine doubling the sound without the resonator. I would say go for it and let us know how it turns out. You will have to post a sound clip when you are finished.

Huge improvement if you have an AEM and FI. I even think you can tune it a bunch with AEM and NA with the fujitsubo and test pipe.

thanks for the input...I was thinking the same thing that I could have a piece made and if I don't like it i'd only loose about 100 bucks if I put the resonator back in. i can't imagine it getting that loud though...there still ARE two mufflers...

i was thinking about a test pipe...but i'm probably leaving florida (no emissions) in a year or so and going back to NY...so that's out of the question. I might get a freer flowing cat if i find one that seems worth it, but i haven't looked into that yet.

considering that i am in florida, i don't really want to have to think about the AEM in my bumper (my area floods ALOT, and there's no way around it sometimes...don't get me wrong...I had one in my GSR and I loved it, but I finally added the bypass valve after I heard the intake trying to suck water and almost stalling it...and that kills any gains you might see with the intake)...i'm probably going to go for the comptech icebox and try to do something with the brake duct.

i'll post a sound clip when i do the exhaust!

my fuji got a lot louder after a few months... it was too quiet at first but it's perfect now. might just want to simmer and let it mellow louder on it's own.

my intake is still louder, though

I tried a free flow cat but it was still quite. I am willing to sell it if you still want to try.

How is that testing coming along with all those test pipes?

I am sure pulling the resonator makes for more noise, but it could not double in decibels. dB's are on a logarithmic scale, and if they doubled from, say, a 90 dB at 1 meter level to 180 dB, it would cause immediate and irreversible loss of hearing. At that level, you can etch concrete with sound waves. Actually, there is some amazing science being done with incomprehensibly loud noises in special chambers - the results will have significant industrial uses. Maybe even containment for those fusion reactors we need to solve the world's energy and pollution issues.
