Default Full Synthetic Oil Change interval and Filter

I'm currently running Amsoil 10W 30 Signature Series oil and I'm seeking input for oil change frequency and oil filters.

Currently, the car gets maybe 20 miles a week driven normally, occasionally, longer trips of maybe 50 to 100 miles round trip maybe once or twice a month. Add in one or two longer all-day group cruises/drives and maybe a track day once or twice a year.

How often would you change out the oil?

What filter would you use, either the Honda OEM or the Amsoil filter, which is rated at 15,000 miles?

Thanks for your replies.

I have used amsoil 10w30 signature with OEM PCX-004 exclusively since i first owned the car 5 years ago. I change it based on mileage, not time- every 6000 kms. autocross 12 events/yr.

If you use the amsoil filter and amsoil oil, then do a UOA at 6000 kms, and if all is ok, check again in 1000 kms. Follow the advice of the UOA lab as well.

Don't forget the OEM filter is built differently than other filters: the gasket is between two metal rings. That means when it is torqued down properly (or 7/8 of a turn) ,something that cannot really be done by hand, there is metal to metal contact with the surface of the filter and engine oil filter seat.

Very different than the usual filter with one metal ring and the gasket which can be hand tightened. Loose filters are the number one cause of engine fires for the S and have caused lots of low pressure/ loss of oil with the resulting engine damage here on these forums.

You could easily go one year judging by your mileage description. The oil could last even longer, but I think changing it once per year in vehicles that are not driven long distances is best. If you go by the number of miles 8,000 would not be unreasonable for that oil, though it could likely go much farther. At that interval it isn't too hard on the wallet. I like the Honda PCX filter, there might be a couple aftermarket filters that are equally good or better, but it's a gamble until you find the right one. Stick with a proven design.

I'm debating either a 6-month or one year (maximum) on the oil, and after reading up on Bob's The Oil Guy, switching to a 0W-30 Amsoil oil. I have a leaning towards the Honda OEM filter, however, would you trust it to last 6 months or 1 year between oil changes?

I didn't think that you would put very many miles on the car in 6 months, but if you do then go for the 6 month interval. The oil filter change is not based on months but more affected by miles, so it would be good up to one year no problem with your driving. Amsoil 0w30 is a great oil too, the NOACK volatility of their 0w30 is a bit higher than their 10w30 FWIW, I'd probably run the 10w30 in that climate, but you can't go wrong with either oil.

First let me say I'm not going to argue with anyone.I'll just say that I run Amsoil 0w30 Sig Series oil in my ( shown below) GST,Z06 & S2K ( 103k) miles.Bought it new.

The OEM filter is a good one and so are the Amsoil filters.Since my OCI is every 5k miles,I run WIX oil filters on all my cars and my 03S likes the #51334.

I personally use Amsoil 10w-30 with the OEM filter. I have a MY06 so I just let the car tell me when I need to change it, and I follow that even though the oil could go longer. The thing I like about using the electronic oil life equipped on the car is that it is not just a set mileage, but if you run at higher rpms, it shortens the interval, and vice versa. It usually is somewhere in the 6,000's.

Is this the OEM arrangement on the S2000?

Thanks!

It is on the 2006 and later S2000. (Just as it was on my wife's Civics.) The 2006+ owners manuals have no maintenance intervals listed, just how to read the dashboard display.
