I saw this in another thread a while back, and thought it was a pretty cool idea for those that do their own oil changes. After I installed my x-brace, I knew I needed to do something to make oil changes easier and cleaner. I have the spoon x-brace, which sits directly under the drain plug. Here's what happens when I change the oil...

I ordered the valve from http://www.fumotovalve.com for a total of $34.95 shipped. The part numbers is...
F-106N(w/Nipple) and Adapter
The F-106 does not have the nipple.

Here's the part (actually two parts)

Here's the valve in the closed position

Here's the valve in the open position

Assembled Valve and Adapter. I tried installing without the adapter. It won't work. The valve hits the oil pan without it.

Here's the spoon x-brace (in black) sitting directly under the stock drain plug

Taking out the drain plug with the spoon x-brace installed

drain valve with adapter installed (x-brace must be removed first)

drain valve ground clearance: Note that x-brace sits below valve (valve is protected)

Valve with x-brace - Valve with nipple clears the x-brace.

Drain test with half a quart of oil: Aaaaahhh.. much better.

That is cool!! You could probably connect a hose to the nipple to ensure it would definitely clear the X-brace.

Really neat idea and great photos!! My only concern would be vibrational fatigue of the pan. Looks like it sticks out pretty far. How much due the two pieces weigh and exactly how long are they when connected together?

Thanks in advance,

Utah

great documentation - I was wondering how I was going to deal with the mess of the x brace on my next oil change...

What prevents the vavle from opening due to vibration/rocks/etc.? I'd hate to loose my oil...

The pieces are about 2 3/4 inches long when together.

what about a plastic shield to deflect the oil for x brace users? maybe a cutup oil or antifreeze bottle to start? put it up during oil changes only? I'm only looking to avoid the mess on the xbrace...
