Fun Electrical Issue
Solved it luckilly, but an odd one that I ran into last night.
Was at a track night event (SCCA) and was having intermittent issues with the car not wanting to pull above 8500 RPM, with it running rough and low on power starting at 7500 rpm. Issue would come and go so I was a bit stumped trying to figure it out.
On the way home, the EPS light started flickering, then came on steady and EPS turned off.
ABS light came on next
Stereo then turned off
Dash lights then went out completely
So I found the nearest exit and stopped at a Hardees parking lot (whole other story on the neighborhood and all the new friends I made there lol)
I messed with all the harnesses looking for a chaffed or broken one seeing as how I was having all sorts of electrical issues. Was not finding anything consistent at all. Car woudl not restart after turning off, battery was dead.
I have Hagerty so went ahead and called their roadside assistance so they could dispatch a truck.
I kept on troubleshooting and found that the alternator connector had backed most of the way out of its socket (worn out connnector, does not snap in as securely).
Truck got there, we charged the battery first, I fired it up and pulled my meter from my toolbag and found it was charging just fine. Let it run for a bit, shut it down and fired it right back up. Great... battery is taking charge.
I am guesing the lowering voltage was messing with my Emanage. I used a LOT more fuel at that track night than at previous ones and a lot more while driving it afterwards until I stopped. I did not know that, because the gauge had been reading much higher. Once it was charging again the fuel gauge dropped to near empty, but luckilly there was a station close by and it took about 10 gallons to fill up.
The odd part is the Batt light never came on once during this. My guess is some of the pins in the connector were making enough contact to make the system appear to be charging, yet it was not. When I checked the battery before charging it, I was reading just under 11V but never a warning light

Cool that you solved it roadside under duress. Good to post this as it can be in he back of someone's mind if something similar ever happens to them.
I think its also a good confidence booster if someone finds themselves stranded with confusing symptoms. That can feel overwhelming. But stopping, thinking, trying, most of the time you can figure it out. Bravo!
I had a similar thing happen, but in my case it was a popped fuse preventing charging. Battery slowly died as there was nothing recharging it.
Like you, no battery light ever came on. Only symptoms were it was it was slow to crank when starting it after drive to work (40 miles) and to another place afterwards. Then on drive home stereo started crackling, and within seconds car started running rough. I realized what was happening and shut off as much electrical draining functions I could until reaching a lighted parking lot. Stole a fuse from another function, and was able to push start it.
