FWD conversion?
OK, no flames please, I am serious. I am considering a FWD conversion for my S and I want to know if anyone has any experience or tips. The rear drive handling is a liability in wet weather, plus the transmission losses are way too high. So I'm considering either a K20A or F22C swap into the S, driving the front wheels with either an RSX-S or TSX manual tranny. This should save a lot of drivetrain weight as well.
I need tips on:
- Which way should the engine spin, i.e. could an F22 work with other FWD trannies, or do I need to go with the K-series?
- Any tips on mounting the new drivetrain? Can I keep the stock front subframe?
- I know I'll have to replace the front suspension to avoid interferece with the front drive axles. Should I go with MacPherson struts to save space?
- What kind of aftermarket diffs are available for the K-series drivetrains?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I can't wait to pop the hood and see the engine facing the "right way" for a Honda (transverse)!! And with the weight savings I bet I can get into the low 13's for sure.
