Default gas cap issues

Anyone have any info on the gas cap problems some of our cars have? The cap clicks even though its not tight and sets off the CEL light. I thought I read somewhere about a TSB regarding this, but can't find it in the library.

*edit*
Move this to S2000 talk if deemed more apropriate for that section, I didn't realize I was in the UTH area.

I had the same problem with my 2002 model year. The dealer replaced the gas cap under warranty and it took care of the problem for awhile. It doesn't screw on as nicely as my 2005 model though. I had to grab the outer edge to get a nice snug fit.

Not sure if there is a TSB on the issue but I recall reading a thread where the gas filler neck had to be replaced to permanently fix the problem.

Yup. It's a 2002 issue. The new fuel filler neck works great. No problems since I had the TSB done. TSB 04-002, IIRC.

grabbing it grom the outside is the key on my 02. You can feel it tighten up considerably more than if you tighten it with the center section of the cap.

Anyone have a copy of that TSB available for downloading/viewing/printing? I'm trying to have everything as organized as possible before I bring my car in. This dealership barely sees any S2k's throughout the year and I don't want anything going wrong.

Fill neck is the problem, not the cap. Not too bad to replace it.

Dealer will have it on their computer.

1) Call them up. Tell them to look up TSB 04-002 (I think that's the right number) and to check their inventory and see if they have the replacement filler neck in stock. If they don't, have them order it. (The TSB covers Elements and S2000s in 2002 and early 2003. Be sure they order the S2000 parts!)

2) Do not reset your ECU! Bring the car in. The TSB recommends that the dealer should check the DTCs to see if the gas cap DTC has been stored.

3) If the part is in stock, leave the car with the dealer. (Should take a few hours to do, I think. Maybe less.)

It will just get worse and worse. If you buy a new cap, that one will just get worse and worse. Replace the fill neck (and cap) and the problem will be gone forever. The threads on the fill neck are slightly wrong.

I had the same problem on my 02. Dealer did research and replaced the fuel filler pipe and gas cap on my extended warranty. I have had not problem since then. Just replacing the gas cap will do jack, as the problem is with the fuel filler pipe threading. Let me see if I can find my other thread, I will add it here.
