Gearbox problems
I noticed recently that none of my even numbered gears feels like it is engaging properly. 2nd and 4th in particularly.
Today it started to pop out of 4th every now and then.
The fact that it is all the back gears that are misbehaving is strange.
What is it that holds a car in gear? What is the likely fix for this issue?
Gearbox rebuild or something simpler?

YAY!
Turns out it was something simple.
I removed the center console and the problem was immediately apparent. The plastic ring that secures the rubber boot under the center console had worked loose at the back and was sitting up at an angle. This was pushing the gear lever forward and popping it out of gear.
So glad I don't have to do gearbox 101 yet!
