I vote for either hardtopguy's brand new motor or one of Alaniz's motors. Both would be very reliable setups and you can find someone in socal to put it in for you.
And, there's the J's Racing 2.2L that makes 300bhp and 200tq:

Tho, I have a feeling it's gonna cost way more than what your insurance is giving you.

Haven't talked to Alaniz yet - and PM'd hardtopguy but haven't heard back from him.

Alaniz rebuilds my block - right? No core exchange, just an actual rebuild?

Does anyone here have one of his motors?

I'm not totally sure why you are looking at a complete new engine when you just trashed your block. I would expect that you could get out of the situation with a new Honda short block and just have the head remilled. Unless of course there was a ton of internal damage then thats not an option.

If your head is still good I would pick up a short block from hardtopguy and just have the old head remilled and comp tested. You should be out of the garage for between 4500-5000 including labor plus you dont have to worry about hte history of the engine because everything was either new or reassembled by hand.

When my engine went last fall this is exactally what I did instead of picking up a questionable engine. I am extremely happy with the decision.

Yeah, that's a good point Import. Problem is, no one really knows for sure if the head is ok or not. It looks functional, but it is an ugly mess of burnt oil - which i'm not too happy about.

Thats the risk of reworking the head. You would need to have it resurfaced and compression tested before you could go back to using it. One slight advantage to this is that the remilled head will result in a slightly higher compression ratio
