Default Good inexpensive OBDii scan tool?

Hey all,

I was looking at cheap scan tools to read and clear codes and was told to check out the Autel MaxiScan MS300 - around $20.

Is this a good basic tool for getting and clearing codes, or are there alternatives I should look at?

Thanks,

You can't beat that price, there are lots of them out there but if you can get one for $20 for the sole purpose of reading and clearing codes I'd go for it. Many others out there with added features but they cost more than that.

The only downside is it won't read chassis codes, depends if that is a concern or not.

I bought one off eBay for something like $15. Very basic but it works great! Just keep your phone with you so you can look up the codes. The more expensive ones tell you what the codes mean on the scanner, but with a smartphone it's pointless. I've used my code reader on my S a few times without issue.

I bought one of the $18 ones on ebay. It's good just to clear the O2 sensor code (no cat), but other than it kinda sucks lol. But it's helpful from having to go to Autozone every 2 weeks.

I bought this one and use it with the Torque Pro app on Android. Works great. I can read/clear codes and also view all OBD2 info like intake air temp, etc.

Add this to your Amazon Wish List and you may see it drop to $9.99 occasionally. Great simple tool that reads the codes- just keep your smartphone linked to the S2000 code list and you're golden

*lol I've just noticed you've asked about this same model!
