Default Grinding

I recently purchased a 2001 S2000 and I am noticing a grinding sound shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. What is the cause of this and is this covered under warranty. Purchased car from 58 year old neighbor who did not rag on the car and would only use it on weekends.

The 1-2 grind is a known issue and the subject of a TSB (technical service bulletin). You may be able to talk a dealer into fixing the problem even though the car is out of warrantee. Here's a link to the TSB listed in the forum's library.

cdelena had done extensive investigation into this issue, and although his transmission was repaired twice (more?) it still grinds. Others have reported better success with the TSB fix.

Since you're in my area, check the South Florida forum. Some of our members work at dealerships and may be able to help. Also, if you get the TSB authorized, it's a good time to replace the clutch since the transmission will be removed from the car.

It appears your right, this is a very big issue with the S2000. I read in another link that changing the transmission oil might help. Thanks for the help.
