Grinding from first to second.
I have owned a 1986 CRX, a 1990 Civic, a 1994 Del Sol VTEC and now the 2003 S2000. I have never had any problems shifting into 2nd or any gear in any of these cars.
I put 125,000 miles on the CRX, and 90,000 HARD miles on the Del Sol. The Del Sol was a great car.

The transmission in my 02 was replaced last fall just before I purchased it. It has less than 3k on it. The previous owner sold the car for just this reason. The transmission had been fixed once and then when he traded it in, Honda Canada opted to replace the tranny completely.

Thanks for the Cdn part number. Do you feel it is worth flushing the clutch fluid on such a new transmission?
I do intend on replacing the tranny fluid with this GM product in hopes of fixing the problem. It is definately an issue when the weather and engine is hot, and I don't want to cause more damage.
I have altered my shifting style as well. Part of the reason could be the increased radar activity in Winnipeg as of late. Too many close calls.

If you have 2 year old clutch fluid, it is possible for it to have absorbed enough water to make clutch operation abnormal. If this is the case, then shifting can be affected. It's not a real tough job and I have a "How To" listed in "Commonly Asked Questions ........................... " Have a look and see what you think.
I will check the "how to". This is something I have never done but it can't be rocket science.

The clutch fluid is just brake fluid and is in its own self enclosed system. This fluid does not touch the tranny fluid.
For the clutch, you can use any DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. It's also written on the clutch reservoir cap.

This seems to be a very annoying problem with these cars.I bought my 01 with 12k on it in april of 04,it to had this damn annoying grind.Being a tech at a honda dealer i investigated and was told by two honda engineers that i should replace the 1st and 2nd gear sets per service bulletin(tsb 00-55).So i tore down the tranny and too my dismay everything looked fine.There was very little burring on the second gear synchro,but that was it.I put the thing together and installed the updated friction disk and it was perfect .Well just last week i was driving it hard and CRUNCH into second gear!!!WTF!!!!Since then it has crunched into second a handful of times but its still not as bad as it was before.I have talked with one of the engineers and they want me to tear it down again.In my opinion that is a total waste of time,i will find nothing!For now i am driving it and will probably try swapping transmission fluids AGAIN but im not done with honda yet!I personally don't think honda knows whats wrong but i believe there has to be a defect of some sort.I will try and keep every one updated !Until then keep em grinding!!
