Default Grinding Gears (and more)

So last night I was in 2nd accelerating uphill, attempt a quick shift into 3rd and it grinds. I assume I just missed the gear so I shift really slow to make sure the car is in gear then keep going. I start slowing back down to cruising speeds and go to put the car in 6th and it will not go in at all. I put it in 5th, then move to put it in 6th again and nothing. Eventually it slowly works its way into 6th gear and everything seems fine (3min later).

The same exact scenario happened again tonight. Grind 3rd, car won't go into 6th. Except tonight it was even harder to get it into 6th, but it did eventually go in. However, now it feels like there resistance when pushing it OUT of 6th back into neutral.

I changed my transmission fluid 6k miles ago. Any ideas?

I had the same thing happen on one of my other cars before the clutch disintegrated. It was a pretty epic explosion. Luckily it happened on the drive home from buttonwillow When was the last time you bled the clutch slave? It sounds to me like the clutch is sticking (not completely disengaging). Can you verify this for us? Put the car in gear, do a rev test with the clutch pedal pushed in and see if the clutch is fully disengaged.

Remember it's very hard to diagnose over the internet. Is there anyone local who can check it out for you?

During that rev test what would happen if the clutch wasn't fully disengaged? The car would move a bit?

Hey if the car moves, I would bet that the clutch is dragging a bit. I am of course assuming you are on level ground and it is not rolling down a hill

The first step here would be to bleed the clutch slave. It's very simple. If you need help with it, I can post a quick video after work.

I found a DIY on here that I'm going to use. I'll do that today and see if it helps. Thanks!

The other possibility is that you have a bad habit of skipping gears when you upshift and are damaging your gear box. This gearbox does not take skipping gears well, especially if you don't do it really slowly and/or double clutch.

I never skip gears, ever. Which is why I have no idea why 6th would get messed up from missing 3rd

I bled the clutch and put new fluid in. This is what I saw after bleeding:

Shifting feels smoother all around now; however, there is still resistance when pushing OUT of 6th gear

Clutch fluid gets dirty really quick and should be changed annually. It'll look black just like what you have in that cup. Sorry I don't have any idea on why you have resistance when pushing out.

Great job Falut! Thanks for posting a picture. I am not sure about the resistance coming out of 6th gear. I do know that with my latest S2000, it took awhile to bleed all of the gunk out. The previous owner had never bled it. Enjoy the S2000
