Default Grinding going into 5th gear

Hi, new to s2ki. I checked 3 pages of forum and havent anyone mentioning a grinding gear. Anyone might know why it grinds when I shift into 5th gear? It doesnt happen everytime but I have tried to make sure clutch is fully engaged. The car is still under dealer warranty. Is there an easy fix or worth taking to dealer???

Ever skip shifts? For example, 3--->5?

If so, no bueno. Might have damaged your synchros.

If I do skip shift it's normally into 6th gear. However I can skip to 5th or 4th-->5th and it still grinds I havent made a solid connection yet. And If your gears are "grinding" while they are IN gear. That is BAD.

I grind going into 5th sometimes as well. I've never skip shifted. and 2nd gear happens once in a while too (the well known synchros problem), although more often than 5th.

The quick fix is to change your tranny fluid and see if it gets better. Otherwise, it's not going to be a quick fix.

If the car is still under warranty then don't waste your time with us! Go get it looked at and have the dealer fix it on their dime.

It's well documented that skip shifting in this car causes adverse wear on the synchros, especially the 6th gear synchro (it is intended to take the smallest loads). So, don't skip shift, especially into 6th as you'll wear through that synchro fast. Do a search for lots of threads concerning skip shifting and its effects.

The gist of it is that the MY'00-'03 cars have double and triple cone synchronizers for every gear EXCEPT sixth. So, if you skip from 4th to 6th, the single 6th gear syncrho is doing lots of work that it was never designed to do. Wear goes up exponentially and bad things happen. Don't skip shift.
