Default grinding sound when starting the car

hey guys in MY01 with 75k sometimes when i start the car is sounds like a grind sound. only until the car starts. it makes me cringe everytime, it maybe does it once a week but it will do it 3 times in a row when i start it. then after that its fine for at least a week. im thinking it is the starter...i just want another opinion on it. and what is the part number from majestic of the part because they have so many different start pieces for 180 dollars. thanks in advance.

This was recently discussed, so you may want to search it.

My car does the same sometimes when it's cold out. As I understand it, if the noise is abrupt and short right at start up, it's the starter not immediately disengaging from the flywheel. It's not a serious problem, and can be helped with lubrication, but not completely fixed. A new starter is probably on your horizon.

The timing chain tensioner is more a card in bicycle spokes noise that usually continues after start up.

Yup. Starter gets its teeth stuck in the flywheel's teeth. (starter solenoid not pulling the pinion back)

Common problem, when the weather gets cold. Mine's been doing it every winter, for the 3 years I've had mine. I completely spaced out re-greasing the starter, when I had my transmission out. Oh well, I'll live with it grinding occasionally, until the starter is done for.

i would also love if someone can help with the correct part number

i was also looking into this issue....random starts (not warm, only the first starts when cold) i will hear a grind noise as well...i recently bled the clutch fluid, and my car has 80k so im unaware of the mileage on the clutch so for a while i have been worrying about the master/slave cylinders and/or clutch (i purchased my car recently so i was thinking at first this was a clutch issue but i know it isnt now).....but the problems described with the starter you guys are describing seem synonymous with what i am having issues with...
