I've had this issue for over a year. I decided to wait for the starter to go out completely before I replace it, but it keeps on working. Didn't try lube on the gears yet. I figured that'd get messy and i don't want lube near my clutch.

Hopefully, you won't have to replace your flywheel too. Being too cheap to replace it now may cost you more in the end.

why dont you guys buy a starter from auto zone? It costs $104.00 and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. So when it starts to make that grinding sound again you can just replace it for free.

that top starter bolt is .....WOW, just pain. but you should be able to get it off with ease using an impactool. thats if your doing it yourself.

Having the same problem here. It is funny because when I bought the car from the previous owner it wasn't doing it at all. It is like the starter is going bad even though some of you guys are saying otherwise. I don't want both my flywheel and starter to go bad, but I think it may be too late. I am going to get it checked out for free and decide from there. Thanksgiving Weekend is my time to do all of my maintenance and cleaning lol.

So are you guys saying it is not the starter motor? How can we fix this noise? People probably look at our cars and think "damn that is a sick ride" and then they hear the screeching sound and think it is a POS lol.
