grinding transmission
i had a friend who recently had a 2000 s2k and he just put in his 5th warranty covered factory rebuilt transmission. he finally traded in the car for a wrx because of the tranny problems. i have also talked to a salesman at the local dealership here who has a comptech supercharger on his s2k. Before SC'ed he went through 2 rebuilt trannys and then 1 more after that. The last time I talked to him was about 6 months ago so maybe even another one. Both of these cars have less than 30,000 miles on them. The reason I am posting is because I love the car and want to purchase one but absolutely do not want to go through this kind of trouble. I would just like to hear about people that have never had problems and from those that do have problems.thanx a lot
My '02 has a 2nd gear grinding problem with sub-par tranny oil (OEM). Since I started changing my tranny fluid every 3K miles with Redline MT-90, its been REALLY nice. I've been driving it really hard since I got it 21K miles ago.
I think you will find lots of people who haven't had any tranny problems. There aren't that many people who have had to have them replaced. Actually, I have been very pleased with the reliability of this car. I haven't had anything break.

my '01 had the tranny grind. But I took it in for the TSB which fixes this and so far no grinds. Still, even with the fix, I must say the tranny in the S2k is a temperamental one and quite sensitive, and not forgiving at all. Just make sure you make clean, smooth shifts and make sure your clutch is all the way down.
