Thanks so much for the information. I agree that the spacers are worth a try given the alternatives.

I'm just a very critical person and I wish the theory behind them made more sense to me. I fear that which I do not completely understand

Haha i completly understand where ur coming from.

Well you went further already and replaced your halfshafts, thats money there already.

Spacers are pretty cheap, and install shouldn tbe expensive, it was quite an easy install.

Give it a try, see if it solves the problem

Gluck!

First to AJR LKF:

What you did is move the CV bucket outwards.
That introduced a new patch of bucket to the spider bearings.
That cured the vibration under acceleration.
But spacers DO NOT stop the wear.
It's just wearing in a different spot now.
The same would have happened if you would have:
#1 - swapped the CV buckets left/right (and its free, just tools and knowledge needed)
#2 - used new buckets (thats expensive)

The spacers may seem like a cheap cure, but you are also creating a weaker mechanical axle setup.
You need longer bolts to bolt it all together = weaker.
The CV bucket isn't directly clamped on the output shaft anymore = weaker.

Spacers may be a cure but they DO NOT solve anything, they DO NOT stop the wear caused by lowering.

To matthouston23:
You've replaced just about everything.
If you raise the car and try to move the output shaft up& down, does it have play?
My propshaft has a little piece of steel welded to it (balancing weight).
Examine your propshaft for weld tags without the piece of steel.
Maybe it broke off and your propshaft is unbalanced now.

Let us know.
(the spacer will not fix your problem)

I've had the propshaft inspected and it was fine and balanced.

I'm thinking it's the rear wheel bearings, because I swear it's coming from something at the wheel.

And, yes, my wheels/tires are balanced, etc, etc, etc. I've used different sets and it doesn't change the behavior.

It's worth the money to me for the spacers just to eliminate them as a possibility. I know I don't have the CV pitting issue, so if they solve the problem that won't be the reason.

@ SpitfireS:
that's a good drawing there and excellent explanation!

@ MattHouston:
I have to agree with spitfire, the spacers won't help you.
good luck though!

If it helps. I had no problems with vibration ever.

My half shaft spacers were installed when I installed my new 4.57-R gears. Purchased the complete pumpkin from Rick's. My car was not lowered yet. About a year later, I installed my K&W Variant 3 coilovers and then my 18" wheels. The car is about as low as you can go with juuust clearing speed bumps. My suspension is very stiff. There have been a few extreme bumps that I had to avoid. You can see my drop from the picture in my signiature below.

So throughout this whole process, I am vibration and trouble free.
