I've always questioned the spacers, They push the axle toward the hub but what about the other side?


IMO, the housing itself needs to be extented from within not with a spacer.

Unless someone can do a detailed diagram and provide 100% evidence that they are effective i'm not sold.

in for more thoughts and theories.

so does that mean, lowering the vehicle does not affect cv joint wear, as opposed to the wear when the car is not lowered?

So far we can't find any reason to believe that lowering increases CV joint wear.
I'm not sure that's what you asked, but at this point, it's the right answer.

yea that is what i asked.

but spitfire says it changes the ANGLE, and a sub-optimal angle, imo, would increase stress and thus wear.

however, a spacer would not correct the angle nevertheless.

i suppose i will not be lowering my car.

Billman, when you get the car apart and measure the CV joint movement, how about also measuring the total angle change of the half shaft during a full sweep of the suspension movement. Also measure the angle change bettween center and an inch lower. I'll bet the angle doesn't change enough with a 1" drop to change the effeciency of the joint by eought to consume even 0.1 HP more. Basically close to zero change in the joints torque transfer effeciency and capacity. The more numbers you can get the more we can do with them, and if I get any of the math or physics wrong I'm sure somebody will correct me. The nice thing about numbers is that they are unbiased, and produce solid information as long as you get the math right.

I'd like to know the ball movement and angle changes at both full compression, center, and 1" compression from center. Is that too hard to measure and/or too much to ask?
