Default Is a Hard top essential for winter weather?

My S2000 is one with a plastic rear window. How careful does one have to be so the window doesn't crack in -20 degree weather?

Also, is there any special treatment I should be putting on the soft top to protect it from salt?

If I had the $5000 to buy a hard top from Honda I would.

Xviper, I've read the thread you wrote about preparing your car for winter..but I can't recall if you said anything about the need for a hard top.

All help is greatly appreciated!

I believe as long as you don't try to lower the top when its cold like that it won't crack. You already read xvipers thread... thats about it... you dont NEED a hardtop

Blast the heat and you will be fine

Make sure you have some winter/all season tires

You don't absolutely "need" a HT. It's a nicety that adds to the comfort level of winter driving. If you take care of the window by putting on some cling tint, this will protect it when you have to brush snow off it. If you don't do the tint, then don't use a brush to remove the snow. Use a soft gloved hand to push the snow off. The top itself is not a problem. Just don't push down on it when you're brushing the snow off. And treat the top before winter and after winter to help it survive. Avoid using the top unless it can be thoroughly heated to above 50 degrees or it will crack or wear thin.

A hard top is nice, primarily for the glass window and defroster, but not essential.

If you don't have any 303 protectant, get some.

That's what I heard too, as long as you don't fold the plastic window when it's really cold you'll be fine.

Hardtops don't cost $5K. I got a new one from hardtopguy that was $2700. Also you probably could get a used one for less.

I like the HT, but for a while I was questioning wether I got enough use out of it since I didn't drive my S much in the winter. This year I got winter tires for my car so I'll get more use out of the HT.

the HT makes the car look good and has much better rear visibility

Can't really take credit for it. I just bookmarked it from someone else:

What can you treat the top with?
