Default Hardtop on

It looks as if the side catchers on the hardtop mount DIRECTLY on the frame of the soft top on the side where the motors are - If I take the soft top off these catchers have nowhere to mount? Or is there another area on the side of the car? HELP!

Either I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about or you don't.
The hardtop side catch assemblies get bolted to the sides of the car. They are separate units that come with the hardtop kit and requires that you reshape parts of the car's frame before bolting them on. The hardtop pins slide into these assemblies.
The soft top works completely independently of the hardtop. The hardtop does not fit into anything on the soft top.
Look at these installation instructions:

Exactly, take a look at those instructions before freaking out. They will also clarify what it is the original poster is trying to get at.

Ok - if you look at page 4 of 8

Look at the 2nd picture, maybe I'm just an idiot but you can see (least I can) that the BODY side catchers get bolted onto the convertible frame.... /shrug

Negative on this. This assembly has nothing to do with the soft top frame. The soft top assembly is outboard and aft of this assembly. This striker assembly is bolted to the side frame of the car.
If you are asking these questions because you are wanting to remove the soft top entirely and just run with the HT, those strikers stay on the car. The soft top frame is separate and independent of those assemblies.

IF you remove the soft top for weight reduction or whatever, you would need to drill out all the rivits on the rain rail and re-install it on the car.

BUT...the best thing to do, instead of hacking up the top, is just buy another rain rail from Honda, they're cheap.

The hardtop rear catchers bolt to part of the soft top frame. When the top assembly is removed from the cr, you will loose the mounting points for the catchers. You can seperate the frame and use the part the catchers bolt to, or fab up mount for the catcher.

Most of the race cars running removed soft tops have metal straps bolted to the body and hardtop.
