hate it when this happens
i always feel annoyed when i hear mysterious sound coming out from the car and dont know what is the problem causing it.
the last time was the clicking when going from a stop and after much reaching came to know about the axle nut problem
the problem: now during cold start , when warming up the car. I often hear a mellow "thunk" when i shift gears. I dont know if it is the clutch or diff but after it warms up the sound is gone. would like to know if anyone experienced the same thing and what problem might this be as i would like to know the severity before goin for autocross.
thanks a lot guys.

It is very had to diagnose a noise over the internet.
The best thing to do is offer as much information about when, where, what, why, how you can.
"cold start, thunk when shifting" really doesnt leave much for us to go off of.
I could take a shot in the dark and say, its a normal noise for a cold transmission/diff?

I have this same issue, it sounds like its comming from the rear diff. When I shift gears at a lower RPM I can hear a kinda thunk while shifting into another gear. Its either the rear diff or maybe the clutch? no clue.
