Default Headlight ballast 2001 = ballast 2002?

Hi guys,

I have a broken ballast on my Honda S2000 model 2002.
Now I bought a ballast from a model 2001 and there are some differences. In such way that the cable enters the ballast in a different direction and some little shapes of the box are different.
I think and I hope that the ballast of the 2001 is the same and will do the job on my 2002.

Can anybody tell me for sure if that's correct? Or am I in trouble?

Hope to get some confidence here.

Thanks in advance guys

Dries

I'm having the same issues on my 02. I bought it wrecked and some stole the ballast off the damaged headlights.
So I bought some used AP1 headlights, one had the ballast on it and the others didn't so I picked up a couple ballasts cheap. I didn't realize they were different till I tried to assemble the front end.
On one ballast, the wire that goes to the cars wiring harness, screws to the ballast, but the other ballasts that wire plugs into the ballast and I'm missing it. I asked Honda parts and they couldn't tell me. They said they could order the wire, but I really don't know what year the ballast that are missing the wires are?

Does your 02 ballast wiring harness wire unplug from the ballast??

Headlight swapping is very popular, so it's possible that you've each happened to buy AP2 parts from an AP1 car (or bought your AP1 used after it had already had AP2 ballast swapped in).

FYI, there's only one ballast part number (33109-S2A-013) for all model years of AP1s. The assembly includes the control unit and igniter.

For AP2s (all years), the control unit and igniter are separate parts with distinct part numbers (33119-S2A-J01 and 33129-S2A-J01, respectively).

From what I could find out, the AP2 ballast bolts on totaly differently from the AP1.
There does however seem to be 2 different AP1 ballasts.
They both bolt on the same way, but look just a tiny bit different.
The igniter looks the same and fits the headlight ok.
But the label on one says 360V and the other 500V.
Most the 2000 and 01's label say 360V and X6T02671 in the lower right.
Most of the 02 and 03's label say 500V and W3T11071 in the lower right.
Still researching! Butch

Well I looked at several ballast for sale and went on a couple Honda parts sites.
2000 and 2001 have a igniter and lead wire already attached as part of the unit.
2002 and 2003 have a attached igniter, but the lead wire unplugs and is replaceable.
2004 up is a different ballast and bolts up with a different bolt pattern.

Now the only question is;
The 2000 and 01 ballast puts out 360V while the 02 and 03 put out 500V, so I wonder if using the same bulbs, one light will be brighter than the other??
Oh, looks like 04 up puts out 400V. Butch
