Default Headlight Compatibility

Hi, apols if this has already been posted. I searched but not luck.

OK. Due to higher general 2nd hand availability I am considering importing some used AP1 headlights from the US to the UK. (As my Headlight has leaked and Inverter is FUCT - its no fun in the dark at the moment).

My question(s) is this.

1). Does anyone know if Headlights and inverter/ballast part numbers are the same? I can't find anything on the internet to suggest that they are, making me nervous i'm wasting my cash on parts which I can't use.

UK part numbers are:
Inverter Unit, HID System = 33109-S2A-013
Bulb (HID D2S) = 33116-ST7-003
Headlight

They will fit just fine. We here in the US have installed al know versions with our existing hardware and electroincs.

Now to your questions. No the pattern can not realy be changes without a ton of work. The part that makes the pattern in inside of the projectors, inside of the housing. You would need to open the housing, and open the projectors, remove the mask and install the mask from your existing lights.

It would be easier to open your existing lights and clean them up and seal them closed again. Also cheaper. But again, your would have to do the work.

Thanks Stratocaster assistance appreciated.

Unfortunately, not only has the headlight been severerly damaged and repaired before, but the inverter has corroded and now duff.

- Just to confirm, I should expect a different US headlight p/n as has different part in it? But dimensions etc should be exactly the same?

- Are you able to identify the part that needs to be changed from the headlight assembly diagram in the following post? So I can articulate this to the garage when they do the work for me.....?

(Sorry I don't seem to be able to post images for some reason - i'm guessing I need to be paidup member).

Part #1 and #13 is the housing. Part #5 is the inverter. Also with the water, you may want to replace the seal (#7)

Yes, the Housing are all exactly the same shape/size and have the same mounting locations.

If you are looking for the part that changes the projection, that is inside of the housing, inside of the projectors.

Question

Thanks mate, that makes sense. I guess its a lens or some little widget. Have you had one of these little gizmos out before.... its not a fixed part of the housing or anything? (rather than for me to just assume it will magically come out)? I will need to get down the garage with the diagram and make sure they can/will do..... else I may find myself doing it myself.... lol..... Which by all accounts is not supposed to be that hard. i'm just scared of the 25000V sticker!!!

Do you drive on the right-hand side of the road, so that having the pattern higher to the right won't blind oncoming traffic? Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it.

As I know all xenons have __ __ pattern, not like halogen headlights which have \__ \__ pattern in UK and __/ __/ in the rest of the Europe. USA headlights will fit in UK S2000, the only difference is amber corner diffusers, which have to be removed, or replaced by Rick's clear diffusers.

Sorry RedY2kS2K your not 'getting' the thread are you. Thats what i'm trying to avoid.

Garis, you make another good point ref corner diffusers. This is sounding more and more like a job I will need to do myself so I can get the unit to UK spec. UK Pattern + UK diffuser now needs to swapped on to the US unit.

As i've never had my hands on a Headlamp unit out of the car. Can someone informed tell me if the headlamp housing will come apart? Is it glued, Siliconed or screwed? The diagram doesn't show it coming apart, however I have seen threads showing internal paint jobs.... Can the diffuser be swapped? Can the pattern widget be swapped?

Thks

G.

Read http://www.ricks2k.com/info/instructions/diffuser.pdf how to disassemble headlights and change diffusers. Look at UK headlights pattern first, it probably can be the same as US pattern.
