Help
i just did mine this morning. i didn't have the problems Maskdman3 had, I had to tap it a bit to loosen it but it popped right out. Replaced the new one and it started up without a sound.. I feel so relieved that the tensioner was the problem and not something else. Thanks to Billman also (and many others that were on the many threads that I read) as I did much searching to make sure that what I had was the same as everyone else.
Thanks..
Thanks..
I got the grinding sound on startup the first 2 times. The rattle was gone. All seems to be well so far. I guess it had to get situated and oiled up the first couple of starts. It is pretty cold outside as well. (for here anyway)
Mine was stuck in there pretty good. I was bleeding all over the place by the time I finished from my hands slipping off and getting gashed open on one thing or another in there.

ok, so you got the grinding sound even after replacing. I didn't get it the first time after replacing, but it made that awful sound the following morning. I was like "damn..i guess i didn't fix it." i suppose I'll just wait a couple more starts before I go and look for something else to fix/change.

I replaced mine, backed out of the garage and ..............tic, tic, tic, it started making the noise after a moment.
Pulling the SC was a pain.I'm waiting to here your outcome.
My car developed the tic, tic, tic that is audible at around 3k rpm with the top up and windows closed. It began as a chatter on warm startups, and now it is noticeable when engine is hot. I did the old "screwdrived to the head" trick I have isolated the noise to the front of the engine.
Just today I came back from a visit to the dealer--a very disappointing experience with the Service team at Honda Mission Valley, in San Diego.
I have described the situation to the service manager, and upon an "ear" inspection the tick was assumed as normal drive train sound. The service manager left and came with another person and after a brief discussion (I could not hear them talk) they said that they can not help me anymore. I asked to just give me a peace of mind and have a mechanic with a stethoscope isolate the "tick" and just let me know the part that is making the noise and was informed that they will not put in a work order. Respectfully, again I requested if someone could take a look at the car or at least make a note of the incident, identifying that I am the owner of the car and I am 100% positive the noise is not normal. The person let me know that "Well, I am the dealer and I tell you there is nothing wrong with the car". Again I asked to make a note and was rudely refused as he walked away. I asked for the name and was given a "John", while walking away not even having the courtesy to make eye contact. At that point I was just beyond furious and could not come up with a way to respond.
What really sucks, is that my warranty is running out end of this week.
If any of you had the part replaced under warranty, how have you proven it to the dealer? I am affraid that since so few of the cars are sold, and probably even less serviced, the tic can be easily mistaken for valvetrain sound.
Billman - I am also running Mobil1, please keep us updated on your results running dino.

Go to another dealer.

And call the General Manager of the dealer, and if that doesn't get you anywhere, call the Regional Manager for AHM. If dealers wearing the Honda badge are not providing good service, Honda deserves to know about it.
I have emailed the GM, coincidentally also named "John", and will let AHM know too.
I just found out that the next closest Honda dealer is owned by the same group. I won't waste my time there neither.
Write down everything you have so far. Names, times, dates, etc. Find a dealer, no matter how far you have to drive. Also find 2 reputable private shops (or other manufacturer dealers that will work on the car). Have them look at it and give you something in writing that they feel that there is something wrong with the car. If it is bad enough record a video of the problem...right in front of their dealership.
Have your car repaired under warranty at a Honda dealer before it runs out. Once your car is safe, pursue the crappy dealers. Do as mxt_77 suggested and call the GM of the dealers that would not work with you. If the GM is anything less than amazing, call the regional director. No matter what happens with him, get the name and contact information of his boss. Call his boss. Repeat this process until you absolutely cannot get anyone else on the phone.
If you get high enough, it always comes down to one man/woman. If that person becomes annoyed, they will make the lives of everyone below them miserable for allowing you to annoy them.
You can try the BBB but they are a waste of breath in my opinion. They have no real power and no one feels threatened by them anymore.

after what everyone has wrote after my response, I'm wondering if i have the same problem. I do hear a bit of ticking while idling, but the noise I was referring to was the loud (almost screeching) sound upon start up - which sounds like running a card along a spoke of a bicycle wheel but much sharper/louder.
Is this the same thing you guys are referring to? I only get it on a cold start (morning and after sitting for many hours - when i start up to make my ride home from work).
maybe i was reading everything wrong, but from other threads, i thought that my problem was caused by a bad TCT, so i got a new one and replaced it. I will let you know if the problem persists though.
thanks -
