Default HELP! EPS sensor won’t go back into steering rack.

So I pulled out the EPS torque sensor in my 2001 and cleaned the old grease off of the sensor. For some reason, it won’t go back in not the rack. I’ve got an AP2 sensor that will fit with very little effort but I’ve been trying for days to put the stock one back in with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Did you loosen the lock nut?
Honda sells the special wrench or you should be able to grab it with a big pair of channel locks.

Lock nut? Lol. Maybe I'm definitely missing something. Is the lock nut the nut on top of the rack above the torque sensor? What does the lock nut do?

Do you have a link to the Honda tool? I'd rather fork over the money than maul my rack with some channel locks.

Put a jack under the drivers side tie rod end, with a block of wood. Do it right in the middle, between the inner and outer end.

Just put LIGHT/EASY pressure upwards with the jack. It will lift the rack against the spring and the TS will drop right in.

Just did this Friday.

It worked! Thank you so much Billman! I’ve been trying to get it back in for over a week!

Also, when I was running the AP2 sensor in my AP1 rack there was some slop in the steering. Can that slop be adjusted out using the lock screw on the rack above the TS?
