Default HELP ! knocking coming from rear ?

I bought my car a few months ago and it was slammed way too low and couldnt make it over speed bumps so i raised the car up and got the allignment done now it just clears speed bumps. since raising the car a knocking noise has developed and got worse. its knocks everytime you go over bumps in the road.

i have jacked the car up and tried shaking the wheel with both hands and it doesnt move, also tried puting a lever under the tyre then lifting it to look for any movent in the bushes, ball joints and suspension when the suspension compresses. i checked suspension bolts, top mounts and all are tight.

When i stiffen the rear suspension damper the knocking isn't as bad as when its set to soft? (its tein mono flex coilovers)
I thought it may be the driveshaft because it moves back and forth about 5 mm when jacked up but there's no vibration just knocking ! (no driveshaft spaers)
Car drives good, feels tight at the rear, accelerates fine. its a 2004 uk car 70k miles

Any help would be great...

Maybe its in the shock itself?

Are the springs still tight between perches when the car is on jack stands?

Hi, i thought it was the shock or part of it but i checked over it all, it feels fine and seems to perform fine. when i steer very sharp left right left right the suspension extends and compresses fine and can feel the damper working and there's no knocking or feeling of any free play. When the can is on jack stand the springs are still tight...

i also had a similar experience expect it was coming from my fronts. i couldnt figure out what was causing it.

this happened after getting an alignment. i took it back and the tech told me he had forgot to tighten something while he was doing the alignment.

so take it back to the tech who aligned your wheels and tell him to specifically make sure everything is tightened down in the rears.

GL!

The knocking noise was there before the allignment was done so couldnt have been that. plus i watched him doing the allignment and he torqued the bolts right up

i see. then it could be your inner CV joints.

i believe the knocking is the 1st symptom.

do you feel vibrations at acceleration?

The rubber boot between the springs and the spring seats sometimes get worn through and will make noise metal to metal over bumps.

To raise up the Teins, did you adjust the spring perches or the length of the shock body?

it was the shock body i got instructions from tein UK for setting the various heights. the springs are still tight when jacked up.

The noise does sound like metal to metal and its comming from left and right side and you can hear it knock when going over harsh bumps and it rattles when driving on rough roads. I'm going to jack the car up again today and i'll check the rubber boot...
