I hear these comments and want to believe them but, without knowing the guts of the ECU, how do you know? The 2006 ECU is a different animal than the older non-reprogrammable ones. If I was honda and I had to pay out millions in bogus warranty repairs, I'd be sure to put some minimal data logging in there. It would cost them pennies per ECU.

I know for a fact that many airbag ECU's data log and have for 15 years now. Worked on a court case once...

From '00 to '05, we have been told by a Honda tech here that max rpm is not captured. You are right, as for the '06, we have yet to be told anything in this regard.

datalog on ecu
do u know we are in 21st century. i'm sure datalog might come in handy in future, but as of now... nope.. car manufacters can't afford to install "black box" in the car...

1) in order to save memory, it needs constant power
2)at the time ecu was built, flash memory was expensive and is still expensive.
3)y would honda waste time looking thru ecu for warranty? when they could just look @ the damage? also, a lot of engine warranty are not cover anyway.

What amazes me more than people mis-shifting all the time in this car is that after that mis-shift, they continue to drive around to see if anything is damaged.

not true. he is talking about a mechanical over rev, as in the wheels/transmission spinning the engine to 10k rpms, rev limiter wont help you there.

I hope this statement was a joke. If not, you have much to learn about cars in general. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't give advice.

Hint: rev limiter has NOTHING to do with mechanical overrevs.

Not necessarily... You CAN over-rev this motor, even with a rev limiter. the limiter will kill the spark, but momentum can send the crank spinning past the redline bouncing pistons off valves.

Honda's new fourstroke motocrossers have had similar issues also attributed to overreving the motor... they have rev limiters too.

A friend of mine is a mechanic for a Honda dealer in Mountain View, CA and he told me they get a bunch of losers who over-rev their motors trying to get it fixed under warantee, they are all sent away dejected hahaha. The tell tale signs of the overrev are bent valves, broken springs, cracked retainers...

The description of this guys problem sounds like he's in store for a multi-thousand dollar repair bill.

Can't blame Honda for not wanting to pay for a driver F-up.
