Let's start by telling you that MY02 has w/21,700 miles. Yes it is my daily driver. My friend just put in 4IG's intake and a few days later I started to have this problem. (note: I don't think it has anything to do with the CAI, so 4IG no flames or anything at you.) The first night I drove it with the CAI it drove fine. After a few days (4 or 5) I noticed that I started to get bogged down on 1st gear. (not the normal bogging due to lack of torque) Here are the symptoms:

1st gear: From a stop, when I engage my clutch and press the gas I don't move and I see that my tach is at 4-5k rpm and then when it gets to about 55-6k rpm i'll start to move at about 3-4 mph

I wasn't sure why this was happening so this is what I have done so far. First thing was check the CAI and make sure there was no leaks and that checked out fine. The second thing I did was call a company called clutchmart and described the symptom to them but he admitted that he wasn't familiar with the S. So I call the dealer and the guy I spoke with said that the tech who knows about the S is not in right now and that they would call me back.

Has anyone had this problem before? Is it my clutch? Help

I aslo checked the library and the search function but did not find anything.

i think your clutch is worn down or your pressure plate has gone bad.

Sounds like a worn out clutch to me too.

You say your tach reads 4-5K but is the engine rev'd that high too or just a wacky tach reading?
In 3th gear on the freeway, does your clutch slip if you floor it?
If so you need some clutch work, if not you got something weird going on.

BTW, you got your foot completely off the clutch when this happens?

Thing that's strange here is a worn clutch usually shows up when trying to pull higher gears not 1st (except for drag launches which I'm guessing isn't the subject here)

3rd and higher gears are fine. I have no problem accelarting, it's only when I am at a stop and on 1st gear. Yes, my foot is off the clutch when it revs to 4-5k rpm. No drag launch because I don't know how to drop the clutch due to the fact I'm scared of ruining the clutch. (so much for that if it is my clutch)

I would also like to mention that I live in Sacramento county in California where the weather has been in the 100's the last week or so. I don't know it the heat has any effect on the clutch?

You clutch is going bad. What it is doing is slipping. My friend thought it was his transmission so he bought a new one and it ended up being his clutch.

You might check the slave cylinder first. If the car pulls fine in 3rd gear, it should pull even better in first gear. Something in the slave cylinder may be keeping it pressurized for some reason when you stop. Anyone agree with me?
