What's the status of the starter wiring, battery, starter solenoid, and starter itself? You have any corrosion or loose connections in the large gauge wires and grounding points, under the hood?

Thanks for taking the time to reply but I really don't know much about any of those things and where to check it I'm nervous of messing around under the hood as I don't really know much about mechanical stuff

Did you leave a door or trunk open overnight?
Is the battery more than seven years old?
Well, the first thing to do is to check your battery. It's in front of the passenger along the fender. It has a positive (+) and a negative (-) cable. One should be red the other black and the case of the battery should clearly show a + (positive) or a - (negative) at the posts.
There is a strap holding down the battery with two 10mm or 12mm nuts.
If you can get some jumper cables, hook up + to + and - to - and see if that will start the car. Hook up the positives first, then the negatives. Make sure the connections are good.
Otherwise, take out the battery and take to autozone to have tested.
You could also borrow a multimeter (perhaps at the autozone as they lend tools) to test the voltage at the battery. It should show about 13 volts at full charge. Car probably won't start at less than 9.5 volts.
