i think that I wrongly said "clutch plates" instead of "clutch packs" as the tech told me on the phone.
There is a very good chance you are throwing your money away.
You possibly have a clown for a tech,
you have a potentially strong case for a new diff at the dealers expense,
and you are not listening.
Leave your so-called specialist, check your work order from the dealer to see if they used the wrong fluid, and if they did, make them replace the diff!
Hello . . . anyone home??

The 3 posts just before this one pretty much sums it all up.
If you ask questions for which you never intended to listen to the answers, why ask them in the first place.
You may as well just give your "specialist" a signed blank cheque. I don't know about the rest of you, but it's just too painful to stay in this thread.

You know ... after rereading his posts ... I don't think he is at a Honda Dealership!
He mentions honda "specialist" and later talks about an "independent shop".
Sooo ... I guess he can't very well follow the good advise posted with regard to dealing with HONDA.
Just my 2 cents.

"so i took it into a local honda specialist to have it checked out."
"The thing that makes a me a bit concerned is that no more than 3 weeks ago the car had its 30,000 mile service performed at the local dealer. I believe that that included a diff fluid change but am not certain."
This all started with service being performed by Honda, he then took it to a so-called Honda specialist to investigate noises that began soon after. So he not only could very well, but should, very well follow the good advice posted and start with Honda, especially since this has happened to others before.
