Default Help shiffork question?!

Hey guys have a question. Is the shift fork(the part that end of slave cylinder pushes on) spring loaded? Does a part of the clutch give it then sping tension on ot? All of a sudden clutch peddle would not push down got home jacked up the car the slave cylinder rod was all sideways grabbed the rod came right out. I pushed on the shift fork got to move with hand no tension on it. So does the clutch need replaced or just the slave cylinder.
