Default HELP! Steering issue, almost wrecked the car

I know these cars are prone to eps issues but I'm not sure what this is. At first I thought it could be bearing plates on top of the struts but after almost crashing the car i think its the rack...

So driving the car - if you turn the steering wheel, it stays put if you let go of the wheel. Steering wheel does not return back to centered. Steering is stiff but not as heavy as no power steering. Tried pulling eps fuse to see what it would do, made the car nearly impossible to drive. Whatever it is I would think its mechanical and not electrical but figured i'd ask here

Was driving down the road going 60mph and steering wheel locked up completely causing me to go off the road, thank god it was flat grass and nobody was near me

Any ideas? I'm assuming the rack is bad but never in my life have I had to steering wheel lock up going down the road. That's scary

Check the steering rack guide screw, it could be over tightened. Refer to page 17-14 of the service manual.

Your problem is completely uncommon. Have it checked out it wont be hard to find.

Ebay has whole EPS units for under $300. Good news is fixes are relatively cheap it seems.

Do not drive car until this is resolved, hope that was a no brainer.

Good luck, sounds scary as hell, glad your okay though.

AP1, yes it was drivable but very very hard

I fixed the car. Used rack fixed the problem. Not sure what was wrong with the old one.
