Default HELP! Swaybar advice

I installed the comptech swaybars a week ago, and today decided to jack up the car and check all the bolts... to my surprise and alarm, the rear sway bar seems to have moved about 2 inches to the left(when facing forward) inside the bushings!! now one of the control arms is vertical, and the other is at an angle, whereas they were both at a mild angle when it was originally installed. Is this normal?? What could cause it, and do I need to drop my exhaust and re-position the bar?? Any advice GREATLY appreciated!

Any time you install a faster it is a good idea to check and retorque (which is why I assume you were there in the first place. It can happen do to vibration and settling. Retorque and recheck is the rule....

he's right ... I'd reposition it, retorque it, and check everytime you get the chance initially. The bar is super stiff initially, and it will move on you due to the natural vibrations on the road while you hit small bumps and take turns. If you retorque and check, find out if its shifting one way or another every time you drive around. If so, you need to find out what is causing the one-side shift. As far as I know it is NOT normal for it to shift in extreme fashion in any direction.

I just installed the comptech swaybars last weekend. There are two clamps attached to each bar over a rubber bushing at either end. They locate the bar side to side on the car through the bar mounts. I suspect one of those clamps has fallen off or slipped. Check the front sway bar and you'll see those two clamps. If one of the clamps is missing you can use a hose clamp over the old stock honda rubber "grommet" to locate the bar.

The stock rear bar has four of those clamps. Perhaps the rear bar tends to slide more and needs the four clamps.

the clamps have not moved, and all bolts are still torqued, the bar has just slipped an inch or two to the left.

The clamps are supposed to be right next to the urethane mounts. How did the bar move without the clamps moving?

Ok, the rear sway bar is connected to the car at 4 places. The two brackets with the urethane bushings, and the 2 control arms. The control arms allow some side to side movement of the bar, sliding it through the bushings. I fixed it this morning by loosening the brackets and then pushing the bar through the bushing back to its original location. My question is how/why did this happen? The brackets were properly torqued, and are now as well. I don't think any damage was done, but I don't even want to consider what might have happened to the control arms if the sway bar had put a lot of pressure on them at the angles they were at. Mike B: if you like I can take pictures and scan them in/email them to you if you can't visualize this...

Thanks

sylvainsf,
The mounts are the pieces with the red urethane bushings that are bolted to the chassis - the clamps are black with a silver band around them. They're on the swaybars when you get them from Comptech. Check that the clamps are still on that rear swaybar!

Each clamps should both be toward the inside of the car (if I remember correctly) - on the differential side of the mount. Is it possible that one clamp is on the outside of the left mount and one clamp on the inside of the right mount? (looking forward)
