high pitched sound from engine
(FYI - changed thread title from "intake whistle question")
hi again...
so about a week ago, i started noticing a rather loud high-pitched whining/whistle coming from the engine, about the same frequency as squealing brake pads. it happens ONLY at idle. the moment i rev the car or pull on the cable, it disappears. i've never heard it while in gear.
anyway, so this sounds like the standard "s2000 intake whistle", yes? i can't think of what else it could be.
the reason i'm asking about it is - i have a stock intake, brand new filter. nothing changed a week ago, however, i replaced the IAC about a month ago.
could the new IAC be the cause of the whistle? i noticed it's a slightly different unit (gold-colored now, instead of silver). if so, is this still ok and no cause for worry, or is there anything i should check out?
if it's not related to the IAC, is it normal that the whistle would appear randomly like this?
thanks, as always.

Atleast for AP1 not sure about AP2. we have an Airpump for smog purposes that feeds directly into the intake elbow. you can find a large hose connected to the right side. Normally you will hear the whistle a few seconds after you first start the engine and it should run for about a good minute or so. I hear mine every single morning. It's a normal whining/whistling sound.
oh one thing - i did run a bottle of techron through about 2 weeks ago. can't imagine that would matter though.
i'm saying that just in case the whistle has nothing to do with the intake/tb after all.

If you arent pouring chevron gas and decide to you a bottle of techron you need to use it for roughly 1000miles for the effectiveness of the detergents to work.

i just listened to it again. i can't necessarily place the sound to the intake/tb, it's just seems like it's emanating from the engine in general. a loud, super high-pitched "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" (lol), only when idling.
but in researching here, it sounds like what most people are calling the "intake whistle".
